Frequently Asked Questions

Contacts

Which Licensee Name and Address should I use?

This screen is used to obtain details of the individual(s) or organisation responsible for the use of the radio system. If the application is for a Limited Company, a Public Limited Company or a Registered Charity, the registered address of the organisation must be used.

I am an existing customer. Where do I find my customer reference number?

Your customer reference number will be quoted in licence documentation or correspondence that we have previously sent to you.

Is Licence Contact the same as the Licensee Details?

Not necessarily. The licence contact is the person to whom licence documents and other correspondence relating to the licence will be sent. If you are an individual or a Sole Trader you can tick the 'Same as licensee' box and continue to the next screen. Other types of legal entity will not be presented with this tick box..

What is the payment contact for?

Ofcom will send invoices for licence fees, and any other correspondence relating to payment matters, to this person.

What if I don't have a separate payment contact?

Individuals and Sole Traders can tick the box 'Same as licensee' while others can use the 'Same as licence contact' if applicable.

How can I ensure that the 3rd party contact gets a copy of the licence?

Simply tick the 'Please send a copy of the licence document to this contact' box. Many customers find this advantageous as the radio supplier will need to see your radio licence before any equipment can be installed.
Selecting this option will also ensure that the 3rd party also receives a copy of the invoice for your initial licence fee.

Who should be the Technical Contact?

The person in your organisation who is responsible for the operation of the radio equipment and whom Ofcom can contact in case of queries regarding the technical aspects of your application and/or radio system.

What if I don't have a separate technical contact?

Tick one of the boxes provided.

Who would be the Licence trading contact?

Ofcom will use these details to contact the nominated person regarding trading queries regarding your licence. These details are optional.

What do you mean by licence trading?

Licence trading refers to the transfer by a licensee of all or part of their rights and obligations under their licence(s) to another party.

Can I go back and change the contact details?

Yes, just click on the [edit] text for the appropriate contact.

Why do you need so many contacts?

Business Radio users range from Sole Traders to multi-national corporations so we have to cater for all our licensees. For smaller organisations it may be that all the roles for which we have requested contact details are covered by the same person.
