Mx. Robin Hutchinson

Robin works within the Biological Records Centre, supporting the collection and mobilisation of citizen science data. They work on producing R packages and workflows for cleaning and validating data, making data available for research. As well as supporting the production of unstructured datasets, Robin works on the UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme, preparing the data to be uploaded to the EIDC.

Robin also researches the ways in which we can expand monitoring to under-recorded groups, and use citizen science data to understand the interactions between species. They are currently pursuing a PhD focusing on how we can integrate different types of citizen science data to meet these aims. They consider the ways in which we can use museum and expert-collected data, mass-participation data and DNA-barcoding data to understand the effects of global change on insects.

Robin is the Gender Policy Officer for ALDER, the British Ecological Society's network for the LGBTQIA+ ecologists, and wrote their guidance on gender neutral language.
