From the event organisers:

Invasive Species continues to be an important area of focus across the British-Irish Council’s (BIC) Member Administrations.

Environment Ministers from across these islands met in May 2025 and approved a work programme for the Invasive Species Work Sector, with one of the priorities focussing on the threat of Asian Hornets.

Asian hornets, also known as yellow-legged hornets, pose a significant threat to honeybees, and other native invertebrates. They also pose a concern to human health. They first arrived in the Channel Islands and England in 2016 and authorities across the BIC’s administrations have been working to prevent the species gaining a foothold across these islands ever since.

The webinar will bring together stakeholders for a series of presentations exploring the policies and interventions being used to prevent the spread of Asian hornets. The target audience for this webinar includes organisations and stakeholders with a noted interest, as well as public sector officials.
