Global Species Databases
As part of the Species2000 initiative CABI incorporated Global Species Databases (GSD) and Regional Species Databases (RSD) in the Catalogue of Life. GSDs contain complete, internally consistent taxonomy of a single species, or all species in a genus or higher taxon, on a global basis. RSDs are derived from regional checklists or other lists (e.g. of agriculturally important fungi). Some of these data result from in-house work and others have been contributed by other experts. We are grateful for these data-sets and full acknowledgement to the original compilers is stated. Contact links to compilers web sites where additional information (e.g. bibliographies, illustrations and on-line identification keys) is available. If you would like to contribute data please contact us.
Synonymy
Index Fungorum (and Species Fungorum) contains data on synonymy other than the globally complete data sets at generic level contained in Species Fungorum GSDs. Index Fungorum contains data on homotypic (nomenclatoral) synonyms whilst Species Fungorum contains data on heterotypic (taxonomic) synonyms, both contributed from many acknowledged sources.
Homotypic synonyms
Most homotypic synonyms are linked together through the basionym record; this will be effectively complete by the end of 2009. A link to the known list of homotypic synonyms is displayed on the Index Fungorum Record Details page for a basionym record.
Heterotypic synonyms
An increasing number of heterotypic synonyms are available. A link to the known list of both homotypic and heterotypic synonyms is displayed on the Species Fungorum Record Details page for the current name record.
Disclaimer
The taxonomic opinions which lead to the synonymy displayed are derived from the sources indicated (also see Acknowledgements). They are not necessarily authoritative for this taxon globally. For example, they may be based on regional interpretations (derived from checklists) or determined in the absence of a monographic treatment. For examples of authoratative synonymy see GSD data.
