Addiction is the compulsive, chronic need for or use of a substance or activity, despite harmful physical or psychological consequences. 

This may impact you as a person or as a family member who has an individual with an addiction.

There are two main types:

Substance addiction: Involves the compulsive use of drugs, alcohol, or other substances. 

Behavioral addiction: Involves an inability to stop engaging in a behavior, such as gambling, shopping, eating, or working.
