Intelligence
Working with intelligence
Collecting and analysing covert intelligence is at the centre of what MI5 does, and roles in these areas are critical to our mission of keeping the country safe.
We investigate threats to the UK from international and domestic terrorism, cyber-attacks...
Without covert intelligence we cannot investigate the threats facing the UK. Getting a key piece...
Intelligence Officer Development Programme (IODP)
Intelligence Officers lead MI5's investigations into the threats we face, and the way into this role is through the IODP. This structured, six-year programme gives you the skills, training and experience you need to run investigations, work with partners and make decisions that help protect the UK.
Intelligence and Data Analyst Development Programme (I&DADP)
Our Intelligence and Data Analysts help us interpret complex information and turn it into insight we can act on. Through our structured five-and-a-half year programme you'll learn how to identify patterns, analyse data and support investigations across the organisation. It's the first step toward a specialist analytical career at MI5.
Summer Intelligence Internship
Our Summer Intelligence Internship offers you the chance to spend 11 weeks with MI5, where you’ll be placed in one of our investigative teams and gain first hand insight into life as an Intelligence Officer. You’ll discover how we investigate and disrupt threats, support front-line operations and piece together intelligence to understand potential risks. It’s a great opportunity to experience life at MI5, develop your skills and discover if you could see yourself building a career with us.
Agent Handlers
Our Agent Handlers work covertly with agents who provide information critical to protecting national security. Agents are not employees of MI5 but people who have information relating to threats facing the UK that we would not otherwise have access to.
Mobile Surveillance Officers
Our Mobile Surveillance Officers follow subjects who have been identified as potential threats to national security. They observe people and places in a wide range of environments, so it is vital that they are able to blend into the background at all times.
Covert Technical Operations Specialists
Our Covert Technical Operations Specialists take the lead in deploying a wide range of advanced MI5 technical capability to enable intelligence collection in fast paced and high profile investigations. They play a key role in progressing investigations helping to develop methods that allow us access to the computers and devices used by terrorist groups that pose a serious threat to national security.
