Hintze Hall

Hintze Hall is our largest public gallery. A blue whale skeleton is suspended from the ceiling as a reminder of humanity’s responsibility to protect our planet. It’s surrounded by specimens that represent the history of our solar system and life on Earth.

Dippy the dinosaur on display in the installation Dippy Returns

Dippy, a replica of a Diplodocus skeleton, first arrived in London in 1905.

This treasured dinosaur served as an awe-inspiring welcoming sight for visitors in Hintze Hall from 1979 to 2017.
