Formulary development and maintenance

At the RDTC we have been developing and maintaining formularies since 2009. We understand the importance of robust decision making processes which take into account the expertise and needs of all stakeholders – patients, clinicians, providers and commissioners.

RDTC are embedded in formulary and decision-making groups across the North of England, supporting formularies which cover health systems caring for over 7.5 million people.

Our team has extensive experience in:

• Working with statutory bodies to manage the entry of medicines into systems benefiting the population through the design and implementation of good governance processes
• Monthly and annual horizon scanning activity to identify upcoming medicines and products with formulary relevance, and emerging safety issues
• Providing professional support to medicines decision making groups, ensuring robust decision-making and good governance
• Linking up teams across diverse disciplines and geographies to ensure decisions are suitable for the whole population, and reducing variation
• Running open consultations on decisions at local, regional and national levels, ensuring all voices are heard
• Communicating decisions to systems, so that they can be implemented quickly and equitably
• Updating and maintaining formularies to ensure they are accurate, up to date, and safe
