The sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors canagliflozin, dapagliflozin, empagliflozin and ertugliflozin are licensed for the improvement of glycaemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes, a population at increased risk of cardiovascular events.
