Setting the global standard for health technology assessment 

What makes a treatment worth funding? It's one of the most important questions in healthcare and NICE is helping the world answer it more consistently. 

The Health Economics Methods Advisory (HEMA), bringing together NICE, the US-based Institute for Clinical and Economic Review, and Canada's Drug Agency, has published a landmark report giving health technology assessment organisations a clearer framework for deciding which treatment benefits should be measured when evaluating new treatments. The report sets out 3 key principles to help inform which benefits are focused on. It recommends looking beyond the patient alone to consider the wider impact on carers and factors such as lost working time.
