Our licence conditions for both treatment and storage clinics and research centres.
In November 2024 a new law came into force that allows those living with HIV with an undetectable viral load to donate to known recipients. However, this change to this law did not automatically update the Standard Licence Conditions (SLCs). Clinics must comply with the specific conditions on their licence.
Since the law changed, we have been working to vary each clinic’s licence. Only once a clinic’s licence has been varied to include the updated SLC T52 (relating to donor screening) will they be able to offer this treatment and donation.
The SLCs on this page include the updated SLC T52. However, it is not possible for a clinic to accept donors with HIV with an undetectable viral load until their licence has been varied to include this updated SLC. Until their licence has been varied, the updated SLC T52 on this page is for information only.
For full details of the licensing process please see the guidance on the Clinic Portal. Clinics should speak to their inspector if they have any questions about their licence.
