How this service works
A summary of CSMS basic operational flow:
-
The Personal Demographics Service (PDS) provides CSMS with the demographic details for the active cohort. CSMS provides information to GP practices on individuals that are due for screening (via the prior notification list (PNL)) or have moved into the practice and need follow up.
-
CSMS generates communications and sends to NHS Notify for sending.
-
Sample takers use CSMS to check patient eligibility for cervical screening and may use CSMS to generate the HMR101 cervical sample request form for sending samples to laboratories.
-
Laboratories send screening test results electronically into CSMS, which updates the patient screening record according to the result and sets the next screening invitation date.
-
CSAS screening staff update laboratory test results where CSMS is unable to automatically match them to a patient and update CSMS with the date of next screening invitation for individuals discharged from colposcopy.
-
Screening Quality Assurance Service (SQAS) use CSMS reports to perform quality assurance activities.
Examples of use
Key examples of use for CSMS include:
- managing the screening records of individuals eligible for cervical screening
- generating invitations and reminders to individuals eligible for cervical screening at the appropriate intervals and sending ceasing notifications to those that are no longer eligible
- receiving, processing and storing cervical screening test results
- generating communications to inform participants of their screening test results
- creating, managing and monitoring operational and statistical reports
National usage policy
Mandatory for cervical screening call and recall services.
