Introduction to public health intelligence: You will be introduced to concepts of health, public health, the organisations and individuals responsible for delivering public health locally and nationally, and a brief history of public health key figures, policies and resources.
Understanding and measuring populations: We will introduce data, information and intelligence and show how OHID uses this to inform decision making. We will cover the structure of populations, simple measures and statistics, uncertainty and how we use statistics to provide a clearer picture of health and wellbeing.
Introduction to population health management: What it is, why it’s important and what you need to get started.
Assessing needs: This session describes the main stages in the process to assess needs of a population.
Population segmentation: A practical step by step run through of the methods needed to undertake population segmentation as part of a population health management approach, with signposting to complementary resources, examples and user stories.
Risk stratification: A practical run through of the methods needed to undertake risk stratification as part of a population health management approach.
Introduction to population health surveillance: This session describes the concept of population health surveillance and how it can be used to identify and monitor threats to the health of the population, so that actions can be taken.
An introduction to data visualisation: This session describes the principles of good data visualisation for charts and maps in order to produce effective intelligence.
Turning population health intelligence into action: a practical case study: Knowledge to action is the process of landing your resources correctly to the required user at the appropriate time. Explore knowledge to action and the K2A Essentials toolkit to understand the value of this skill.
Introduction to Hospital Episode Statistics (HES): The hospital episode statistics data set provides valuable hospital activity data. This module supports new users in understand what is in the data set, how to understand the data and how to extract the data.
