Accessibility statement for the Money and Pensions Service website

This accessibility statement applies to the website at https://maps.org.uk/en.

This website is run by the Money and Pensions Service. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
  • access the site on smaller devices.

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • main navigation dropdown menus can’t be controlled or accessed using a screen reader
  • some links have insufficient contrast between the link text and background colour when focused or don't have a visible indication of their focus state
  • the Pensions take-up dashboard is not easily accessible using a screen reader or keyboard:
    • the tab order for the content skips between different sections and doesn't follow the logical order of the content.
    • content or functionality is obscured, cut off, missing or requires horizontal and vertical scrolling at small viewport sizes.

The video content provided in the test samples isn’t representative of the video content available on the live site and our report doesn’t include any potential accessibility issues that this content might present.

X

X offers a number of accessibility features for creating posts which can be found at Using X – AccessibilityOpens in a new window 

However, there are known issues:

  1. Keyboard focus indicators have insufficient colour contrast against the background and/or associated components.
  2. Infinite scroll can’t be disabled in X timelines. Infinite scrolling causes significant accessibility issues to a wide variety of people with disabilities and cognitive or motor impairments.

Note: because the number of posts has been limited in the X feed this issue doesn’t apply.

Microsoft Power BI Service

There are significant accessibility issues with the Microsoft Power BI dashboard on the MoneyHelper pension take up dashboard page. Testing with assistive technologies presented significant difficulties interacting with and, understanding the content.

Additionally, the dashboard provides Keyboard shortcuts which were found not to work as expected, and in some cases not at all.

Some PDFs and Word documents are not accessible across the website which are essential to providing our services.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents. We plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages in the updated version of the website in the new Content Management System.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018Opens in a new window if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDF or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

We include accessibility acceptance criteria when developing new components, and conduct regular testing with users of assistive technology.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was first prepared on 28 June 2023.

This website was last tested on 16 August 2023. The test was carried out by Nomensa Ltd.

The testing used a combination of accessibility evaluation tools, visual inspection of code and testing with assistive technology to evaluate a representative subset of 32 test samples across 12 pages.
