A glossary of some of the terms used in EMCS API.
| Acronym | Meaning | Details |

| ARC | Administrative reference code | A unique code generated for a movement once the detail entered on the eAD has been validated. The ARC is required to travel with the goods. |
| Consignee ID | The excise reference number for any Economic Operator Authorised Warehouse keeper, Registered Consignee Certified Consignee, and Temporary Registered Consignee or Temporary Certified Consignee at Destination | |
| Consignor ID | The excise reference number for any Authorised Warehouse keeper or Registered Consignor or Certified Consignor or Temporary Certified Consignor | |
| eAD | Electronic administrative document | Also known as an IE801 message, this is returned after the draft movement (IE815) is validated |
| EMCS | Excise Movement and Control System | A UK and EU-wide computer system that’s used to record duty suspended movements of excise goods taking place within the UK and the EU. |
| eSAD | Electronic simplified administrative document (e-SAD) | Also known as an IE801 message, this is returned after the draft movement (IE815) is validated |
| ERN | Excise reference number | Your SEED Excise ID, beginning with either GB for a Great Britain registered business or XI for a Northern Ireland registered business |
| Excise movement | A duty suspended movement of excise goods taking place within the UK and the EU. | |
| Excise product code | Codes that are specific to the management, transport and taxation of products subject to Excise duties | |
| LRN | Local reference number | A unique serial number assigned to the eAD by the consignor which identifies the consignment in the records of the consignor |
| MSA | Member state administration | The relevant administrative body for a member state |
| Movement ID | Reference for a cached movement in the EMCS API Database | |
| Trader ID | The excise reference number for a trader | |
| Trader type | The type of trader, for example GB registered warehousekeeper |
