Update following general election

The announcement of the general election in May meant that plans to deliver a statutory consultation at the end of June were paused, in compliance with pre-election guidelines. Following the election, we’re now working closely with new Ministers to agree on the next steps.

We had started contacting people and organisations with legal interests in land and property that may be affected by the railway. This work was paused in the run up to the general election but has now resumed.

We’re committed to keeping communities and landowners informed every step of the way and will provide an update as soon as we have more information.

Working with land and property owners along the route

We know that it's important for us to work closely with land and property owners as we prepare and refine our plans for East West Rail. We need to keep land and property owners informed and help them understand whether they may potentially be affected by our proposals. Land Interest Questionnaires (LIQs) are a crucial part of this process, which is why we've been sending them out to people over the last few months. This information will help us gather up-to-date information and understand how the railway may affect peoples land.

Local Representatives Groups

A couple of weeks ago, we hosted two webinars for Local Representatives Groups (LRGs) to meet David, our new Chief Executive. Thank you to all local representatives that were able to join. We hope you found the session useful.

David is aiming to gain a clear understanding of people’s views on the Project and how we can develop East West Rail while minimising disruption for local communities. There will be further planned engagement activities over the coming weeks and months.

The webinars were recorded and can be found on our Community Hub pages.

Social media and website updates

Listening to the communities that EWR will serve is key to creating a railway that works for the people it’s designed for. At last year’s community events, we were told that people would prefer it if our website was broken down into more location-based information, as well as launching on more social media channels. We’re pleased to say that we’ve refreshed our website with this in mind and look forward to launching on X (formerly Twitter) in the coming weeks – as well as continuing with LinkedIn and YouTube.
