Summary

Electrician
HMP Wakefield, WF2 9AG
£30,866 - £36,135 + 15% weekend allowance
39 hours per week



Shift pattern:

Mon–Thurs: 07:30 – 16:30
Friday: 07:30 – 16:00
Weekends: 07:45 – 15:45 (1 in 4 rota + 15% allowance)
The role
Join Amey’s on-site FM team at HMP Wakefield — a stable, long-term role where your work directly keeps the prison safe, secure and running smoothly.



As an Electrician, you’ll be responsible for:

Planned and preventative maintenance
Fault finding and repairs on electrical systems
Minor works and like-for-like replacements
Testing and inspections to BS7671
Ensuring all work is safe, compliant and completed to standard
Supporting AP/RP and occasional escorting duties


This is a hands-on role with a mix of routine and reactive work in a secure environment.

What we’re looking for
Essential:

Level 2 Electrical Installation
18th Edition (or 17th with support to upgrade)
Experience in maintenance / fault finding
Good understanding of H&S and safe systems of work
Ability to work independently and manage workload
Basic IT skills


Desirable:

Fire alarm / CCTV knowledge
