The Practice Business Manager is a key member of the leadership team and will be expected to demonstrate strong senior management, organisational, and leadership skills. The successful candidate will play a central role in supporting the continued success and development of the practice by identifying and implementing strategic objectives through a combination of personal initiative, effective delegation, staff motivation, and collaborative working. The role carries responsibility for assessing organisational performance, developing realistic and achievable goals, and implementing systems and processes that improve operational effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability. The postholder will also ensure that the practice remains fully compliant with all statutory, regulatory, contractual, and legal requirements. The role of medical practice management has become increasingly important and complex in recent years. Alongside maintaining excellent standards of patient care, the practice must continue to operate efficiently within a rapidly changing NHS environment. This includes ensuring financial stability, supporting and developing a highly motivated workforce, and maintaining compliance across areas such as health and safety, employment legislation, CQC standards, information governance, and wider NHS contractual obligations. Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be confident and experienced in people management, financial oversight, strategic planning, organisational development, and information technology. The successful candidate will be expected to take a proactive and forward-thinking approach, helping to maximise the practices potential across business development, finance, premises management, human resources, digital innovation, and collaborative working relationships, while maintaining a strong focus on patient care and operational excellence. A key aspect of the role will involve ensuring that the Partners remain fully informed about local and national NHS developments, proposals, and initiatives. Information should be presented clearly and concisely to support informed decision-making and strategic planning. The successful candidate will be expected to look beyond the immediate operational challenges and consider the longer-term impact of NHS transformation and emerging healthcare models on the future direction of the practice. The Practice Business Manager will also play an important role in helping to shape, develop, and deliver the strategic vision of the Partners, ensuring that agreed objectives are translated into practical and successful outcomes. Strong negotiation skills, adaptability, sound judgement, and the ability to respond positively to emerging opportunities and challenges will therefore be essential. The successful candidate should be able to identify closely with the values, culture, and philosophy of the practice, demonstrating a commitment to patient-centred care, teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement. An understanding of current NHS structures and initiatives would be advantageous; however, the Partners also welcome fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and transferable skills from outside the NHS, recognising the value that broader commercial and organisational experience can bring to the ongoing development of the practice. The successful applicant will work closely alongside the Operations Manager, who has led the development of a strong and effective administrative team and oversees many aspects of the day-to-day operational management of the practice, having been with the practice for over 20 years. This collaborative leadership structure provides excellent support and continuity within the organisation. The successful candidate will also benefit from additional personal administrative support for 7 hrs per week from a member of our reception and administration team, who also has previous experience as a personal assistant. The practice is committed to supporting ongoing professional and personal development, and opportunities for further training and skill development will be available in line with the evolving needs of the practice and the aspirations of the successful candidate. Professional references will be required, and appointment to the role will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
