Summary

General Building Operative
HMP Humber, Brough (HU15 2JZ)
£28,792 + 15% weekend allowance
39 hours per week (rota including 1 in 3 weekends)

Hours:
Mon–Thu: 08:00 – 17:00
Fri–Sun: 08:00 – 16:00
1 in 3 weekends (on rota, +15% allowance)
The Role
We’re looking for a General Building Operative to join our team at HMP Humber, supporting the delivery of essential maintenance services across the site.

You’ll carry out general repairs and assist tradespeople to keep the prison running safely and efficiently.

Key duties:
General maintenance and DIY tasks across site
Assisting trades (painting, repairs, basic installs)
Putting up fixtures, building furniture, minor repairs
Escorting contractors when required
Checking fittings and reporting defects
Maintaining clean, safe grounds (including basic outdoor work)
What You’ll Need
Experience in general building maintenance or DIY
Basic trade skills (multi-skilled preferred)
NVQ / CITB / trade qualification (or equivalent)
Reliable, team player with a strong work ethic
Willingness to learn and develop


Prison Security clearance and Standard DBS required (we’ll support you).
