Role: Workshop Operative
Location: Knutsford, Parkgate Industrial Estate
Working Hours: Mon-Fri, 8:30am till 5pm. 40 hours per week
We’re on the lookout for a workshop operative to join our team in Knutsford. If you’re hands-on, enjoy working with others, and like the idea of learning new skills, this workshop operative role could be a great fit for you.
It’s a really exciting time to join us as a workshop operative, as we continue to grow as one of the UK’s leading family-owned valve manufacturers.
About Us
With over 45 years of valve technology innovations, Oliver Valves is a global leader in the design, manufacture, and supply of high-quality valves and valve systems, serving industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, and other critical sectors. We have won recognised awards for Export, Manufacturing and Growth – as well as the coveted Queens Award and more recently Kings Award for Industry. We’re a profitable, privately owned, and fast-moving company looking for talented individuals to join our team and deliver our strategic objectives.
What You’ll Be Doing as a Workshop Operative
- Assembling valves from machined components
- Carrying out basic functional testing
- Helping out with general workshop tasks like packing and dispatch
- Supporting other processes such as NDT when needed
- Working towards daily targets as part of a team
- Keeping your workspace clean, safe, and organised
No two days are exactly the same, and as a workshop operative, you’ll be right at the heart of what we do.
What You’ll Bring
- We’re not expecting you to know everything from day one—full training is provided for every workshop operative. That said, it would be great if you:
- Have some assembly or fitting experience (helpful, but not essential)
- Are reliable and take pride in your work
- Have a positive attitude and enjoy being part of a team
- Are keen to learn and get stuck in as a workshop operative
- Have basic numeracy, literacy, and communication skills
What’s On Offer?
Here’s what you can expect as a workshop operative with us:
- Starting at £13.20 per hour, increasing to £13.50 per hour after probation + discretionary annual bonus
- Overtime opportunities at x1.5 your hourly rate
- Guaranteed hours in a clean low risk environment (no overnight or rotating shifts)
- Annual leave starting at 31 days a year (includes bank holidays)
- Great benefits including: pension (you put in 5%, we put in 4%), cash plan to reimburse you for medical expenses (dental, optical, physio and more), retailer discount platform, Life Assurance ("Death in Service"), long service awards, and Employee Assistance Programme
- Training opportunities including apprenticeships and college courses available
