Introduction

Acorn by Synergie currently has a fantastic opportunity for a Industrial Design Engineer/Programmer with experience of drawing complex mechanisms and machined components. The Industrial Design Engineer/Programmer will be able to create assemblies, as well as carry out on-site measuring.

This company has over 30 year's experience in Mechanical Engineering and general fabrication, and they are looking for an experienced Draughtsman who will be able to hit the ground running.

Key Duties:
  • Design sheet metal components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Create detailed manufacturing drawings, flat patterns, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Generate and manage DXF files for laser cutting, punching, and CNC programming.
  • Ensure designs are optimised for fabrication processes, including laser cutting, bending, welding, and assembly.
  • Program CNC punch machines, including tooling selection and sheet optimisation.
  • Create and maintain nesting layouts to maximise material utilisation.
  • Liaise with customers to clarify specifications and provide technical solutions.
  • Work closely with production personnel to resolve design and manufacturing challenges.
  • Ensure all designs meet customer requirements, quality standards, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Requirements:

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in a Design Engineer role within a sheet metal & fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including Sheet Metal and Weldments modules.
  • Experience creating and exporting DXF files for CNC laser, punch, and profiling machines.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes, including laser cutting, bending, welding, and assembly.
  • Ability to produce accurate engineering drawings to BS/ISO standards.
  • Knowledge of nesting software and CNC programming.
  • Experience creating flat patterns and manufacturing documentation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Understanding of stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminium fabrication.
  • Experience with Trumpf, Amada, Prima Power, or similar CNC punch machinery.

Knowledge of RADAN, Boost, TruTops, Metalix, SigmaNEST, or equivalent programming software.
