Crynodeb

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and flexible Duty Senior nurse to join our established multi professional team working for Kent & Medway Mental Health Trust based at the Priority House, Hermitage Lane, Maidstone, Kent, ME16 9PH

The Duty Senior Nurse (DSN) plays a critical leadership role across multiple services on each site, offering expert clinical guidance, operational oversight, and proactive support to frontline teams. The services include inpatient, rapid response, home treatment teams, liaison psychiatry and NHS 111 (press 2).

You will be required to adopt a flexible working pattern and be committed to self-development and training.

We are serious about diversity and inclusion, and we are working hard to build this into our DNA. We warmly welcome applications for any of our roles from people from diverse backgrounds, and we are proactively encouraging applications from under-represented communities for our more senior roles, like this one.
• The post holder will be expected to be the first point of contact for frontline staff needing clinical advice, supported by on-call manager and on-call director.
• The post holder will participate in teleconference calls when on duty as required.
• Act as the sole contact point for requests to on-call services, managers and directors, supporting and meeting the needs of the services and service users as they arise.
• To coordinate resources across services out of hours and ensure the appropriate deployment of staff within the services according to need, ensuring safer staffing levels, NHSP/Agency booked and authorised as required.
• To act as a resource providing expert advice to staff and other professionals as required.
• To maintain a safe environment and therapeutic milieu and ensure patient care is of the highest standard throughout.
• To be a point of contact and information for families and relatives if needed.
• Ensure that there are appropriate communication links between the Wider Mental Health Team, General Wards, Accident & Emergency Departments, Police, CQC and other agencies as required.
• If the situation requires it, the post holder will be responsible for invoking Local Business Continuity Plans.

We are Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust. We care for the mental health and wellbeing of people across Kent and Medway and are rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Our teams support children, young people and adults with a wide range of mental health needs. We also provide specialist services, including all-age eating disorder services and neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people, such as autism and ADHD.

Because we work across the whole county and across hospital and community settings, we can make care more joined up and easier to access for the people we serve.

Our vision is simple: we are here to help communities not just live with mental illness, but live well. It’s why we’re passionate about working with communities to make mental health care better for everyone. Everything we do is guided by our values: caring, inclusive, curious and confident.

Join us if you share our passion for better mental health care and want to be part of a team that’s working well together.
