Summary

The role entails but is not limited to the following areas: Clinical Environmental Standards & Infection Prevention: Leading the Housekeeping team. Ensuring adherence to Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) standards across inpatient and clinical areas. Maintaining healthcare-level cleaning standards. Overseeing isolation room and barrier-nursing cleaning protocols. Coordinating outbreak response and enhanced/deep cleaning procedures. Ensuring COSHH compliance in chemical storage and usage. Maintaining environmental audit records and cleaning documentation. Escalating environmental risks impacting safety or compliance. Clinical Linen & Bedspace Readiness: Coordinating safe handling and segregation of clinical linen. Maintaining linen stock levels and flow. Ensuring rapid bed turnaround between patients and supporting dignified room readiness following patient death in accordance with hospice protocols. Ensuring presentation standards reflect compassion and sensitivity. Escalating maintenance or equipment defects in patient rooms. Clinical Equipment Governance: - Equipment Availability & Readiness Ensuring essential clinical equipment is available where and when required. Maintaining readiness status (cleaned, checked, safe and in service). Supporting rapid deployment and turnaround between patients. Preventing care delays due to unavailable equipment. - Asset Control & Tracking Maintaining accurate asset registers. Ensuring unique tagging and identification of equipment. Implementing sign-in/sign-out procedures for portable equipment. Tracking equipment location across wards, clinics and community loans (where applicable). Monitoring high-risk and high-value devices. Maintaining documentation to support inspection readiness. Clinical Consumables & Stores Management: Maintaining defined stock lists per clinical area. Setting and reviewing minimum stock levels. Forecasting demand based on activity and seasonality. Ensuring FIFO stock rotation and expiry date control. Overseeing goods receipt and quality checking. Maintaining availability of critical consumables. Ensuring emergency and out-of-hours access arrangements. Minimising waste and support cost control through disciplined stock management. Safety, Security & Safeguarding: Supporting visitor sign-in/sign-out processes where applicable. Ensuring safeguarding awareness within shared spaces. Monitoring lone visitor and personal safety considerations. Ensuring fire safety information is visible and accessible. Maintaining incident reporting pathways and documentation. Escalating risks relating to environmental safety or access control. Shared Space & Family Area Management: - Family Overnight Stay Management Applying clear eligibility and allocation criteria. Coordinating compassionate booking and check-in processes. Conducting daily readiness checks. Ensuring rapid turnaround cleaning between stays. Maintaining safeguarding and secure access controls. - Communal Kitchen & Refreshment Areas Maintaining hygiene and infection control standards. Overseeing shared food storage rules and labelling. Ensuring daily cleaning and sanitising schedules. Displaying clear conduct and quiet hour expectations. Reporting maintenance or safety defects promptly Bereavement Suite Oversight: Maintaining a calm, private and homelike environment, and coordinating visitation alongside the Ward team. Ensuring visual neutrality to accommodate diverse beliefs. Ensuring comfortable seating and reflective space. Maintaining readiness checklist before each use. Ensuring comfort items (tissues, water etc.) are available. Overseeing access control, privacy protection and safeguarding procedures. Patient Catering Interface & Hospitality Standards: Supporting dignified and unrushed dining atmosphere. Coordinating snack trolley supplies and stock control. Supporting provision of fortified and out-of-hours nutrition. Coordinating volunteers supporting catering functions. Providing clear guidance for families bringing in food. Ensuring food hygiene and safety compliance. Maintaining cleaning schedules in catering delivery areas. Supporting patient feedback mechanisms relating to catering. Escalating maintenance or equipment defects in catering areas. Ward Volunteer Management: Supporting safe recruitment in partnership with Volunteer Services. Ensuring completion of safeguarding, IPC and confidentiality training. Maintaining compliance records. Maintaining documentation of role scope and escalation pathways. Aligning volunteer deployment with clinical team requirements. Providing day-to-day supervision and pastoral support. Ensuring volunteers operate within clearly defined non-clinical parameters. Fostering an inclusive, respectful volunteer culture. Addressing any concerns appropriately.
