Job Over view:
Band 3 Clinical Assistant (Subject to Agenda for Change) - out of hours service to predominantly cover nightshifts and the weekend days
• To work as a Clinical Assistant with the Acute Medical Unit covering adult services @ BVH site.
• To prioritise workload using Nerve Centre and bleep system, delivering care as needed using clinical skills such as venepunture, cannulation, catheterisation, ECG recording, Blood glucose monitoring and recording of observations.
• To assist Acute Medical Unit Practitioners in managing acutely unwell patients by undertaking tasks as trained and directed.
• To respond to crash bleep alongside crash team and assist in Cardiac Arrest and Medical Emergency calls, performing BLS, venepuncture and cannulation.
• When work load allows support ward staff to provide care as needed.
• Assist in checking and restocking of equipment.
• To undertake ad-hoc duties, as they arise, as directed by senior team members.
• To attend mandatory and further training to ensure competence, best practice and safe patient care is achieved.
• To undertake further training to support ward staff in mandatory training compliance by deliver teaching and training out of hours. (E.g BLS, Moving and Handling)
Main duties:
The clinical Assistant on AMU is expected toassistin delivering all aspects of care, ensuring the patient is safe and their personal hygiene, dignity, privacy ismaintainedto a high standard.
1. Venepuncture and cannulation
2. Blood Cultures
3. Male and female catheterisation
4. Urine culture sampling from urinary catheter
5. Blood glucose sampling
6. ECG recording
7. Use of Blood gas analyser
8. Recording of vital signs
9. Taking samples to pathology labs.
10. Stocking and checking of emergency equipment in the team
