Summary

Hull University NHS Teaching Hospitals (HUTH) are working collaboratively with Yorkshire Cancer Research and Sheffield Hallam University to implement the Active Together model for people diagnosed with cancer.

The Active Together programme will run alongside the existing diagnostic and treatment pathways to ensure patients are optimally prepared for treatment and beyond. It aims to maximise resilience to treatment, improve longer term health, minimise side effects and empower patients to be partners in their healthcare.

The programme combines physical activity, nutritional support and psychological support alongside the clinical pathway.

This is a funded 5 year programme which will have staged implementation into all relevant cancer pathways. Patients will receive individual assessments and be triaged into a support pathway suitable to their needs. This may be delivered within locality or selected facilities closest to the patient’s home or may be a self-management pathway.

The overall purpose of this role is to lead, establish, deliver and sustain the success of the psychological element of the Active Together Programme.

The Psychologist will also ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of the psychological service ensuring the delivery of evidence-based practice, better outcomes for patients and the development of services within the Trust.

The post holder will be required to:

Provide a high-quality, specialist psychological service to cancer patients as part of the Active Together programme. This will involve devising and implementing highly specialist psychological assessments and interventions to patients presenting with complex difficulties in relation to their cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Implement a range of highly specialist psychological therapies for individual clients, families and groups.

Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and provide highly specialist advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.

Provide information, advice, support and supervision to non-mental health colleagues within the Active Together Programme

Supervise and support psychological practice through consultation, supervision, formulation and training.

Work autonomously within professional practice guidelines, ensuring that systematic governance of clinical practice is maintained.

Supervision and guidance will be provided by a senior clinical psychologist within the department of psychological services.

The Humber Health Partnership is one of the largest acute and community Partnership arrangements in the NHS, seeing well over one million patients every year and managing a budget of over £1.3 billion.

Made up of two Trusts - Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG) and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH) - our Partnership has significant ambitions and is committed to delivering world-class hospital and community services for the 1.65 million people we serve.

Together we employ nearly 20,000 staff. Our five main hospital sites are Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Scunthorpe General Hospital and Goole and District Hospital, for NLAG and Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital for HUTH.
