Equity, diversity and inclusion

We’re continuing to build a more diverse and inclusive organisation representative of the passengers we serve

We are becoming a company that is on the side of passengers and freight users.  To do this it is essential we become a more open, diverse and inclusive organisation, harnessing the skills and expertise of all our people and attracting the best talent to help us have a safe, accessible railway for everyone.

The future of our railway depends on our people and on every colleague feeling that they truly belong.

As our industry continues to grow and support a more sustainable Britain, equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) must be part of how we lead, how we listen and how we make decisions every day.

Our EDI strategy sets out how we’ll create the right environment for everyone. It’s part of our work to strengthen our organisation while helping rail better serve the communities and customers who rely on it.

We’ll continue to provide an environment that helps everyone to be the best that they can be. The differences between us are what add depth, strength and creativity to our work. This allows individuals and teams to harness their talent and capabilities. And helps improve our railway.

We aspire to make the best use of our people’s talent and capabilities. And to provide real opportunities for their professional development.

There is more to do. But the success of our work on diversity and inclusion, and the excitement of being part of the biggest transformation of Britain’s rail industry in history, are starting to make Network Rail an employer of choice.

Gender Equality at Network Rail

We’re committed to creating work environments that are diverse, inclusive, and ultimately safe. Both for our colleagues and for our passengers! We’re working hard to become an organisation that’s at the forefront of gender equality across the rail industry. We want to attract, develop and retain females to create a more diverse and inclusive work force.
