Offer subject to basic DBS clearance

We are looking for two new members to join our Licensing Team, based at the Council Offices in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire with the roles being hybrid. Ashfield is easily accessible by the A38 and M1, and by bus and by train, with Mansfield and Nottingham very close by.

The Licensing functions we cover relate to: Taxi Licensing, Licensing Act 2003 (alcohol, entertainment and late-night refreshment), Street Trading Consents, Scrap Metal Dealers, Charitable Collections, Pavement Licences, and Gambling Act 2005.

So if you’re eager to work, highly motivated, enjoy working within a Team, willing to follow instructions and procedures, enjoy supporting your colleagues and being supported by them, able to multi-task, be able to think on your feet, be able to spot problems and find solutions, and do all this in a very fast paced environment whilst still remaining calm and keeping up your sense of humour, then this could be the ideal job for you, so read on!

Your role will be to provide licensing related advice by way of email, telephone and on occasions face-to-face meetings with the general public, licence holders and a wide range of stakeholders; and to review and process applications and issue licences. You will also handle complaints about licence holders, carry out vetting checks of applicants and existing licence holders, and assist your colleagues in the Licensing Team with the general day-to-day activities of the Service.

Knowledge of licensing legislation or experience of working in a regulatory role would be desirable. However, experience of working in a busy customer service / administrative role would also be helpful.

If you do not have such experience, but you are willing to be trained, willing to learn, willing to take advice, willing to work hard, and hungry to make a positive difference to your life and the lives of others, that is just as important to us, as we want to find the right people for our Team who can grow their talents and over time build a career with us.

For an informal discussion, please contact Julian Alison, Licensing Manager: 07989 531419.

Closing date: 21 June 2026
