Summary
Job Overview
-We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our team delivering complex mechanical installations across plantrooms, energy centres, and large‑scale decarbonisation projects. The role involves estimating works that include heat pumps, chillers, gas boilers, distribution pipework, thermal stores, and associated mechanical plant for public and private‑sector clients.
Main Duties
-Prepare detailed mechanical estimates for plantrooms, energy centres, and decarbonisation schemes, including heat pump systems, chiller installations, and boiler plant upgrades.
-Interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents to produce accurate take‑offs and cost breakdowns.
-Develop tender packages, including labour, materials, subcontractor elements, preliminaries, and risk allowances.
-Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations and validate technical compliance.
-Assess project risks, constraints, and opportunities, providing clear commercial recommendations.
-Work closely with design, project management, and commercial teams to ensure alignment between estimate, scope, and delivery strategy.
-Support value engineering exercises, identifying cost‑effective alternatives without compromising performance or compliance.
-Prepare tender clarifications, technical submissions, and bid documentation for client review.
-Attend site visits and tender meetings to understand project conditions and client expectations
-Maintain an up‑to‑date cost database for mechanical plant, materials, and labour relevant to energy‑efficient and low‑carbon technologies.
What we are looking for
-Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within building services, M&E contracting, or energy‑infrastructure projects.
-Strong understanding of mechanical plant, including:
-Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, schematics, and specifications.
-Strong commercial awareness and understanding of tendering processes.
-Proficient with estimating software, Excel, and digital take‑off tools.
-Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with suppliers, consultants, and clients.
-Knowledge of low‑carbon technologies, energy‑efficiency measures, and decarbonisation strategies is highly desirable.
-HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline (preferred).
-Relevant industry experience within M&E contracting or energy‑infrastructure environments.
