What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for a hardworking, fun and engaging midday supervisor to supervise our wonderful children during their lunch break in the dining hall and on the playground; ensuring their safety, welfare and positive behaviour at all times.
The Midday Supervisor plays an important role in promoting a calm, inclusive and enjoyable lunchtime experience for all children, supporting positive play, social interaction and reinforce our school expectations of Ready, Respectful and Safe at all times.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Supervision of Pupils
• Supervise pupils in the dining hall, playground and designated indoor areas during the lunchtime period
• Ensure pupils are safe, happy and well cared for throughout the midday break
• Support children in developing positive social skills, cooperation and inclusive play
Dining Hall Support
• Supervise pupils during lunch, encouraging good table manners and appropriate behaviour
• Provide appropriate assistance to pupils when needed (e.g. opening containers, cutting food)
• Support safe movement around the dining hall and ensure orderly entry and exit
Play and Outdoor Supervision
• Supervise playground and outdoor activities, encouraging positive play and inclusion
• Support pupils in resolving minor disagreements in line with the school’s behaviour policy
• Report ongoing or serious concerns to teaching staff or senior supervisors
Behaviour and Welfare
• Promote positive behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy
• Deal with minor incidents calmly and consistently
• Attend to minor first aid incidents and ensure appropriate support is sought when required
• Complete accident or incident records as directed
Safeguarding and Wellbeing
• Be alert to safeguarding concerns and report these promptly to the appropriate member of staff
• Uphold confidentiality and follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times
• Ensure pupils are suitably supervised during transitions back to class
General Responsibilities
• Work cooperatively as part of the midday supervision team
• Follow all school policies and procedures, including health and safety and data protection
• Undertake any reasonable duties related to the role as directed by the Headteacher
Person Specification
Essential
• Enjoyment of working with children and supporting their wellbeing
• Ability to supervise groups of pupils calmly and positively
• Patience, reliability and a caring attitude
• Ability to remain calm in a busy environment
• Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
Desirable
• Experience working with children in a school or childcare setting
• Understanding of inclusive practice and positive behaviour support
• Basic first aid knowledge or willingness to undertake training
