Summary
Radyr Comprehensive School is seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support pupils experiencing significant anxiety and challenges related to school attendance (ABSA).
The successful candidate will work closely with a small group of pupils who face considerable barriers to attending school and may present with high levels of anxiety. This role requires a proactive and empathetic approach, with a strong commitment to supporting pupil wellbeing and engagement in learning.31 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time only)1-year temporary contract in the first instance.Key responsibilities will include:
• Providing targeted support to pupils struggling with attendance due to anxiety and related needs.
• Liaising with teaching staff to ensure appropriate work is available and accessible for pupils who are unable to attend lessons.
• Building positive relationships with families to support pupils’ engagement and wellbeing.
• Working collaboratively with the Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and Pastoral teams to ensure consistent and coordinated support.
• Delivering agreed programmes and interventions to individuals or small groups, both within and outside the classroom, under the guidance of teaching and senior staff.
• Supporting the planning process and assisting in the preparation and management of learning resources.
• Supervising whole classes during short-term teacher absences where required.
This role would suit a highly organised, adaptable individual with excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs.
