RSSB is developing the Carbon Management Tool (CMT).

We’ve designed these two supporting training courses to help rail colleagues measure and reduce their infrastructure carbon emissions.

  • The Carbon Management Fundamentals (CMF) course is aimed at all CMT users. The course enables participants to use the tool to solve common carbon reporting and management challenges in infrastructure. This is a prerequisite for the WLCA course.
  • The Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA) course presents the principles of WLCA and enables designers to undertake WLCA using the CMT. Participants will learn how to apply rail-specific CMT features, such as templates and metrics, to improve and streamline WLCA across project phases.

Course overview

Carbon Management Fundamentals (CMF) is a foundation course that introduces participants to the principles of carbon accounting and reduction, using the CMT for specific rail applications.

Course benefits are:

  • access to dedicated training for the free CMT tool.
  • rail-specific content: use of rail-specific features like metrics to streamline calculations.
  • practical hands-on exercises for reporting and reducing carbon.
  • user-focused delivery: training will be aligned with the needs of the specific user groups—such as contractors—who value free and practical tools that can be applied across multiple contexts.
  • relevance for any rail programme, including enhancements and renewals.
