Summary
Job Purpose
The Nurse Manager is responsible for supporting the safe, effective, and compliant day-to-day management of the nursing and care home service. The post holder will provide clinical leadership, operational oversight, staff supervision, and high-quality person-centred care to residents.
The role combines nursing responsibilities with management duties, ensuring that residents receive safe clinical care while maintaining compliance with CQC regulations, safeguarding requirements, medication management standards, and organisational policies.
The Nurse Manager will support the Registered Manager in overseeing staffing, audits, care planning, governance, quality assurance, and the overall running of the home.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
• Deliver and oversee high-quality nursing care to residents in line with regulatory standards and evidence-based practice.
• Conduct clinical assessments and monitor residents’ physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
• Develop, review, and implement person-centred care plans.
• Administer, supervise, and audit medication management procedures.
• Monitor infection prevention and control standards throughout the home.
• Liaise with GPs, district nurses, hospitals, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary teams regarding residents’ care.
• Respond appropriately to clinical emergencies and safeguarding concerns.
• Ensure accurate and up-to-date clinical records are maintained.
• Support end-of-life care planning and delivery.
• Supervise and support nursing staff, carers, and senior carers in delivering safe care.
Management Responsibilities
• Support the overall operational management of the nursing/care home.
• Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence.
• Assist with staff rota planning, allocation of duties, and workforce management.
• Participate in recruitment, induction, supervision, and appraisal of staff.
• Monitor staff performance and provide mentorship, coaching, and training.
• Ensure compliance with CQC regulations, health and safety legislation, safeguarding policies, and company procedures.
• Conduct audits relating to medication, care plans, infection control, accidents and incidents, and service quality.
• Investigate incidents, complaints, and concerns, implementing corrective actions where required.
• Promote a positive culture of dignity, respect, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
• Support occupancy management, admissions, and assessments of new residents.
• Assist in maintaining budget awareness and efficient use of resources.
• Attend management meetings and contribute to continuous service improvement.

• Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and infection control standards.
• Maintain a safe environment for residents, visitors, and staff.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
• Registered Nurse qualification or awaiting NMC registration.
• Experience working within a nursing home or care home environment.
• Previous experience in a senior role such as Deputy Manager, Clinical Lead, or Senior Nurse.
• Strong understanding of CQC regulations and care standards.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, medication management, and care planning.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage staff teams effectively.
• Good IT and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work flexibly to meet service needs.
Desirable Criteria
• Active NMC registration.
