Summary
Vertical Boring Milling (VBM / Tracer) Operator
Location: Newton Aycliffe
Hours: Monday to Friday
Pay Rate: £16.00per hour
Role Overview
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Vertical Boring Milling (VBM / Tracer) Operator.
Unlike high-volume production environments, no two jobs are the same. This role offers varied and interesting work, machining bespoke components and engineering solutions for specialist customer requirements.
This is a hands-on role suited to an individual who can confidently interpret engineering drawings, set and operate machinery, and machine components to high standards within a skilled engineering environment.
Key Skills & Requirements
- Proven experience operating Vertical Boring Milling (VBM / Tracer) machinery
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately
- Experience within a bespoke, jobbing, or low-volume engineering environment preferred
- Strong understanding of machining processes, tolerances, and precision standards
- Experience machining a range of materials and large-scale components
- Ability to carry out machine set-up, tooling changes, and adjustments to specification
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
- Flexible, reliable, and team-oriented approach
The Candidate
- Experienced in Vertical Boring Milling / Tracer operations
- Confident in producing bespoke and precision-machined components
- Adaptable and comfortable working on varied, non-repetitive projects
- Quality-focused with excellent attention to detail
- Capable of working independently within a skilled workshop environment
- A proactive and reliable team player
Required Qualifications & Certifications
- Proven experience operating VBM / Tracer machinery (essential)
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings (essential)
- Engineering or machining qualifications advantageous but not essential
- Experience within machining, fabrication, or precision engineering preferred
Working Conditions
- Workshop-based engineering environment
- Bespoke machining and repair work - no repetitive production line work
- Operation of large-scale vertical boring and milling machinery
- Work on varied one-off components, repairs, and specialist engineering applications
- Adherence to workshop health & safety and housekeeping standards
