Extended Block Working
Synopsis
This technical note will assist industry with the introduction of extended block working.
Summary Of Changes
This technical note supports the withdrawal of temporary block working (TBW) and the introduction of extended block working (EBW).
It summarises industry good practice and:
- includes findings from a review of emergency special working (ESW) since 2018
- explains the transition from ESW to EBW
- outlines the correct positioning of the EBW ‘exit signal’
- details changes to form NR3190 (Extended Block Working Ticket); and
- provides guidance on the use of the ‘end of degraded working’ sign.
It is intended for railway undertakings, infrastructure managers, train drivers, and signallers.
