An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced and driven hospital pharmacist to come and join the Pharmacy team at University Hospitals Dorset as our new lead for Surgical Services.

The person we are looking for will have excellent clinical, organisational and leadership skills and will help us, as we look to develop our service offering to patients multiple specialities.  This role will have key responsibilities in teaching and developing pharmacy and other healthcare staff on optimisation of medicines.

The trust has Surgical specialities located on the two acute hospital sites, with a new theatre block opened in 2023 on the Poole site and a new Surgical Admissions Unit as part of the current construction works on the Royal Bournemouth site.

This role required Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital (you will be required to work across site)

Interview date - Monday, 1st June 2026

As a leader in your field you will have the support to further develop your skills as a clinician and leader. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to hone your skills as a clinician and leader and play a key role in shaping the future of the Pharmacy clinical services.

Our Pharmacy department is a welcoming, forward‑thinking team focused on delivering high‑quality patient care. We prioritise teamwork and strong partnerships across professions, with a clear commitment to medicines optimisation. We’ve already advanced our service through electronic prescribing (EPMA) and seven‑day working, and we’re now looking to further expand our clinical pharmacy services to support in‑patients and wider Trust activities.

We value inclusivity, diversity, and flexible working, including part‑time and job‑share options. Informal visits and enquiries are encouraged, and we look forward to hearing from you.

This role attracts a relocation package of up to £13,000 for any successful candidate moving from further than 40miles radius from the trust.

The job role includes working on a weekend daytime and weekday late night service are part of a rota.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

We recently went into partnership with Bournemouth University and, with the merger of Poole Hospital and Royal Bournemouth & Christchurch Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts in 2020 to become University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, this is a really exciting time to join us!

Our ambitious multi-million pound plans to develop our sites are well underway, including developing RBH as the major acute and emergency hospital in East Dorset, PH as the major planned care hospital, and ambitious plans for Christchurch to support on-going patient treatment.

Joining UHD gives you the opportunity to enjoy all that Dorset has to offer. Bournemouth is a vibrant university town, and Poole has a large natural harbour and is perfect for water sports or relaxing at a quayside restaurant.

With both the New Forest and Isle of Purbeck on our doorstep, over 7 miles of stunning sandy beaches and coastal paths, we are located within an area of amazing beauty providing a great place for you to achieve your rewarding work life balance.

Please see the attached Job Description and Personal Specification documents for further details on requirements for the role.

We'd encourage you to contact us with any queries and actively encourage visits to our sites prior to submitting an application.
