What skills and experience we're looking for

This is an important and rewarding role within our pastoral team, where you will support students who may need additional guidance to engage successfully with school.

You will work closely with colleagues to provide targeted support, helping students to manage behaviour, overcome challenges and re-engage with learning. Through your work, you will contribute to creating a calm, supportive environment where all students can thrive.

We are seeking a positive, proactive individual who is passionate about helping young people succeed and ready to play a key role in supporting students across the school.

The successful candidate will:

• Build strong, professional relationships with students, supporting them to engage positively with school life
• Demonstrate calmness and resilience when responding to challenging situations, with the ability to de-escalate effectively
• Show a genuine commitment to promoting positive behaviour and inclusion across the school
• Work collaboratively as part of a team, supporting colleagues and contributing to a consistent approach
• Be organised and detail-focused, able to maintain accurate records and contribute to student support plans
• Communicate clearly and professionally with students, staff, families and external agencies
• Have experience working with young people (ideally in a school or similar setting)
• Hold GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above) and have good ICT skills

Working in partnership with staff, families and external agencies, you will help ensure that support is consistent, tailored and impactful—making a real contribution to students’ day-to-day school experience.

What the school offers its staff

• A strong commitment to staff wellbeing and work–life balance
• The opportunity to work in a school with a well-established reputation for both pastoral care and academic success
• A positive and ambitious culture underpinned by our ethos: Believe. Strive. Achieve.

Commitment to safeguarding

De Aston School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
