Crynodeb

Oxford Brookes Law School provides an intellectually stimulating, friendly and supportive environment in which to work and study. As part of its development strategy, Oxford Brookes Law School is seeking to appoint a member of staff at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level to further support its teaching, student experience, research/knowledge exchange strategies, and legal practice-oriented and legal skills teaching.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who will contribute to enhancing our student experience and employability strategy, to teaching particular courses, and to developing our research culture or legal practice-oriented and legal skills teaching. This post is open both to those with a research background, and to those with legal practice or teaching and learning experience who will be able to contribute and lead on our co-curricular offering to students.

Those applying with legal practice or teaching and learning experience will be working closely with our co-curricular leads to advance extensive professional networks, support students in cultivating their practice related skills, and identify opportunities for the growth and development of co-curricular activities. You will be expected to organise events and enhancement activities, as well as contribute to teaching on at least one module as outlined below. The role offers the chance to develop and progress in the education and student experience promotion pathway as part of a highly motivated and supportive team. This post will be particularly attractive to individuals with experience of legal practice who are seeking to progress their careers in higher education, or academics with a desire to enhance their career through a focus on co-curricular activities and teaching and learning.

Those applying with research experience will be required to undertake high quality personal research and other forms of scholarly activity, including seeking external funding for research and developing the impact of your research.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver engaging and high-quality teaching across a range of law modules, and will supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. You will provide academic guidance and support to students, and will contribute to the development of new programmes and curriculum innovations. You will also contribute to administrative duties and will be engaged in the broader academic life of the School.

The successful candidate will have a record of teaching students (or evidence of an ability to teach students) across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in several current Law School areas of need, such as (but not limited to) Tort, Contract, Company Law, International Trade and Commercial Law, Intellectual Property Law, Media Law and Clinical Legal Education.

SENIOR LECTURER APPLICANTS:

Candidates applying at senior lecturer level should have a PhD or equivalent legal practice or academic experience; significant experience of teaching, mentoring, administration and leadership; and have an established record of high-quality research outputs, knowledge exchange or equivalent professional activity.

LECTURER APPLICANTS:

Candidates for Lecturer roles should have a PhD that is completed or nearing submission or equivalent legal practice experience; a demonstrable record of administrative, research, and teaching activity (or evidence of an ability to teach students) that accords with the current needs of the School, and have the potential for developing a record of high-quality research outputs and/or knowledge exchange or equivalent student experience activity.

We encourage and welcome applications from across the global community and all appointments are made solely on merit. We particularly welcome applications from BAME candidates as the University strives to have our staff mirror the diversity of our student population.

This role can be applied for on a fractional basis.

Interviews are planned for the week commencing 29th June 2026. They will be in person, but can be online if needed.
