Summary
Personal Assistant required to support a 13-year-old non-verbal boy with autism, complex learning disabilities and epilepsy in the Motherwell area.
He is a relaxed, cheerful young person whose favourite pastimes include trampolining, swimming, listening to music, enjoying Disney Pixar movies, and taking walks in the local forest.
You will provide one-to-one support in his home, including personal care. Duties include:
• Assisting with personal care and dressing in the mornings before school
•Encourage an active, healthy routine, promoting independence and opportunities to be socially connected.
Who we’re looking for
Experience supporting a young person with autism, complex learning disabilities and epilepsy is desirable; however, your personal qualities matter most. You must be warm, patient, naturally friendly, and have a genuine passion for delivering exceptional high-quality care. Excellent communication skills are essential; because the young person is non-verbal, you will need to be intuitive at reading and responding to his body language and cues. We are looking for someone who can maintain a calm, confident presence if challenging behaviours arise.
Hours of work
5 hours guaranteed on a permanent basis
Training will consist of 7.5 hours per week for the first 4 weeks, then reducing to 5 hours per week
Days and times
• Weeks 1 to 4: Monday to Friday, 7.00am–8.30am (assisting with morning routine)
• Weeks 5 onwards: Monday to Friday, 7.30am-8.30am
• Overnights: One optional monthly overnight shift (details to be discussed with the employer at interview)
Hourly rate
£14.00 per hour
What’s on offer
• A rewarding role making a genuine difference
• Continuous guidance and support.
• Comprehensive, hands-on training, including how to use Picture Exchange Communication (PECA) and manage seizure emergencies.
• The chance to work closely with one individual and build a meaningful connection
