Job Description


Job Title: Early Years Nursery Practitioner
Location: Nurseries, Early Years Settings, and Pre-Schools in Middleton, Greater Manchester
Reports to: Nursery Manager / Room Leader / EYFS Lead / Senior Leadership Team
Contract Type: Long-term

To support the delivery of high-quality early years education and care in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. The role involves creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that promotes children's learning, development, wellbeing, and independence through play-based learning and positive interactions.

• Support the planning and delivery of age-appropriate activities in line with the EYFS framework
• Encourage children's learning and development through play, exploration, and structured activities
• Support children across the prime and specific areas of learning
• Observe, monitor, and contribute to assessments of children's progress and development
• Help create an engaging, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment

• Support children's personal, social, and emotional development
• Assist with daily care routines including toileting, feeding, dressing, and hygiene where required
• Promote positive behaviour, independence, and emotional wellbeing
• Build positive relationships with children to support confidence and security
• Support children during transitions throughout the nursery day

• Support children with additional needs, including SEND, under the guidance of the Room Leader, SENCO, or management team
• Implement individual support strategies and care plans where required
• Promote inclusion and equal opportunities for all children
• Work collaboratively with parents/carers and external professionals to support children's development

• Safeguard and promote the welfare of children at all times
• Maintain awareness of safeguarding, child protection, and welfare procedures
• Follow health, safety, hygiene, and infection control procedures rigorously
• Ensure indoor and outdoor learning environments are safe, clean, and suitable for children
• Report safeguarding or wellbeing concerns promptly in line with nursery policies and statutory guidance

• Work collaboratively with nursery staff, parents/carers, and external professionals
• Prepare and maintain learning resources and play environments
• Communicate effectively regarding children's progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
• Uphold confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times
• Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities as required
• Support the overall aims, values, and standards of the nursery setting

• Experience working with children within a nursery, childcare, or early years setting
• Understanding of the EYFS framework and child development
• Ability to support learning through play and structured activities
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Patient, caring, and nurturing approach
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
• Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

• Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Early Years, Childcare, or related field
• Experience supporting children with SEND in an early years setting
• Paediatric First Aid qualification
• Knowledge of safeguarding and welfare requirements within EYFS
• Experience supporting personal care routines and behaviour management
• Food Hygiene or relevant early years training

• Commitment to promoting children's welfare, inclusion, and development
• Flexibility to work across different nursery and early years settings within Middleton and surrounding areas
• Willingness to undertake ongoing EYFS and safeguarding training
• Ability to maintain a positive, professional, and child-centred approach at all times
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of care, learning, and professionalism

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS (child and adult workforce), satisfactory references, and full compliance with KCSIE (2024) guidance and safer recruitment standards. Overseas police checks may be required where applicable.
