Band 8a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist- Neuro-Oncology and Complex Rehabilitation, 0.7 WTE, cross site Chelsea and Sutton, fixed-term 12 months.

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe with a national and international reputation for high quality patient care, research, development and education. As physiotherapists we are key members of a multidisciplinary team geared to the rehabilitation of patients undergoing surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy in both in and outpatient settings. Oncology provides a challenging environment for developing a number of skills including clinical reasoning, communication and multi-professional working. Ongoing professional training and development is encouraged and supported.


An opportunity has arisen for a physiotherapist with strong neurology experience and an interest in oncology to join the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust for 12 months. The post holder will lead the oncology neuro rehab and complex rehabilitation service within Therapies and will see patients with neurological cancers across both hospital sites in inpatient, outpatient and multi-disciplinary clinic settings. The post holder supports the wider inpatient team with complex rehabilitation including metastatic spinal cord compression. You will be supported by senior colleagues, with regular supervision and in-service training.

The Clinical Specialist Physiotherapists– Neuro oncology and Complex Rehabilitation is responsible for leading and delivering an expert level of physiotherapy practice within the field of neuro oncology and complex rehabilitation. The post holder will use highly advanced clinical reasoning and specialist knowledge to support service development, clinical education, governance, and the delivery of a high quality, evidence based rehabilitation service for patients with complex cancer related needs.

• Practice as a lead specialist physiotherapy resource within neuro‑oncology, vestibular and complex rehabilitation which includes inpatient wards, CCU and outpatients.
• Undertake a significant specialist caseload, prioritising and managing patients with highly complex physical, neurological, and psychosocial needs.
• Undertake a specialist case load prioritising and assessing patients with complex problems
• Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical standards, pathways, and service developments within complex rehabilitation and neuro‑oncology
• Incorporate Department of Health, professional, and organisational policies and guidance into clinical practice and service delivery
• Take a lead role in clinical education, audit, research implementation, and evidence‑based practice within the specialist field.
• Take the lead in the development of clinical education in supporting people with neurological and complex rehabilitation needs.
