This is a clinical post based in the Department of Colorectal Surgery / Gastroenterology (Endoscopy) at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals. It is only suitable for candidates who have completed their JAG certification in lower GI endoscopy and wish to gain further experience.

The post holder should be a JAG certified clinical Endoscopist, preferably in both upper/lower modalities. Experience in the assessment of suspected cancer patients is essential.

The Endoscopy Unit at Guy’s and St Thomas’ is JAG-accredited and provides a wide range of diagnostic and interventional UGI, LGI, and HPB endoscopic procedures.

The post holder will be a vital member of the GI urgent suspected cancer (USC) pathway, diagnostic team. Duties of the role:
• Delivery of diagnostic and low risk therapeutic lower/upper GI endoscopy lists within a team of CEs performing up to 4 lists per week as well as flexible backfill for sickness and leave.
• Delivery of USC telephone assessment clinics (TAC) - outpatient activity will include approx. 100 USC clinics yearly and 100 virtual results clinics yearly
• The post holder will also participate in a rotation delivering endoscopy every sixth weekend
• Additional educational opportunities, depending on the post holder’s training needs, will be available in other areas of Gastroenterology / Endoscopy such as Upper GI endoscopy
• The post holder will participate in teaching and training endoscopy trainees.

Most endoscopic procedures take place in our unit at St Thomas' Hospital using modern techniques and technology.

We also do some procedures in the day surgery unit at Guy's Hospital.
