The Role
Our client based in Saltley, Birmingham is looking to recruit an international Business development manager. The company is one of the largest independently owned logistics businesses in Birmingham, and are looking to expand their already thriving international division even further. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, developing and securing new business opportunities across international freight forwarding and customs services. The role requires a commercially focused individual who understands international supply chains and can confidently discuss customs procedures, import/export requirements, and freight solutions with customers.
This is a sales-focused position with the support of an experienced operational customs and forwarding team.
Hours
The role is Monday - Friday
Office hours 08:00 - 17:30
Flexibility required dependent on needs of the business (around client visits ect)
Key Responsibilities
• Generate leads through networking, prospecting, customer referrals and industry contacts.
• Build relationships with importers, exporters, manufacturers, distributors and logistics buyers.
• Promote customs clearance, freight forwarding and international logistics solutions.
• Attend customer meetings both on-site and remotely.
• Prepare quotations and commercial proposals.
• Work closely with operational teams to ensure successful onboarding of new customers.
• Develop and manage a pipeline of prospective opportunities.
• Meet and exceed agreed sales targets and growth objectives.
• Maintain accurate CRM records and sales forecasts.
• Identify opportunities to cross-sell warehousing, UK distribution and customs services.
Essential Requirements
• Strong understanding of import and export customs procedures.
• Knowledge of international freight movements including road, sea and air freight.
• Proven business development or sales experience within the logistics sector.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Commercial awareness and strong negotiation ability.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
• Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Requirements
• Knowledge of CDS, GVMS, transit procedures and post-Brexit customs requirements.
• Existing customer contacts within manufacturing, distribution, retail or other sectors.
• Experience using freight forwarding or customs management systems.
