Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is inviting applications for a Locum Consultant in HIV and Genitourinary Medicine to cover a period of maternity leave. This post is offered at 10 programmed activities (PAs), with opportunities for additional sessions available by mutual agreement, depending on service needs.
The successful candidate will join an established and supportive clinical team comprising a full-time Consultant in Genitourinary Medicine and a Specialty Doctor. Together, the team delivers high-quality care across HIV management, sexually transmitted infections, and a comprehensive range of contraceptive services.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of an integrated sexual health service, enhance patient care pathways, and further improve outcomes for individuals living with HIV. The service provides both inpatient and outpatient care, supported by a dedicated multidisciplinary team, including a specialist pharmacist and clinical psychologist.
The Trust is committed to promoting flexible working and encourages applications from candidates interested in less than full-time working arrangements.
The post holder will participate in a 1 in 3 on call Consultant rota during weekdays and weekends along with a Consultant in HIV and sexual health at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust (Sandwell General Hospital). The integrated sexual health service is also supported by a Consultant in sexual and reproductive health who manages cases of complex contraception which includes deep implants and misplaced intrauterine contraceptive devices.
Provide a high-quality HIV and integrated contraception and sexual health service to outpatients attending WISH Walsall Sexual Health Service which is delivered by the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. Clinics will be a combination of complex and non-complex sexual health, contraception advice and opportunity to have procedure clinics fitting LARCs depending on competency level.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities.
A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023. The two-storey development has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity and has provided almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.
