• An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Post on the Intensive Care Unit working at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital.

• The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to critical ill patients.
• To provide clinical and managerial leadership for nursing and support staff across both sites, ensuring equity of service.
• To co-ordinate the departments on a shift-to-shift basis on both day and night shifts.
• To provide clinical and managerial leadership for nursing staff.
• To liaise effectively with the greater teamTo take a positive lead on clinical practice issues and change management.

Clinical Duties
To ensure high standards of nursing care are given and maintained. Act when standards are not being upheld.
To recognise changes in a patient’s condition which requires the intervention of others and refer the patients on as appropriate.
Act as a clinical role model, providing leadership and guidance to staff on operational and professional issues, ensuring clinical expertise and practice is enhanced.
Be proactive in the development of the clinical area, supporting and planning process and service development, contribute new ideas to improve patient care.
Act as a mentor/preceptor to students and new staff members.
Contribute to the audit process and utilise results in practice
Professional Duties
To work within the NMC code of professional practice, and within the Policies, procedures and guidelines of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust
Managerial Duties
Support the Senior Sister and Matron in ensuring the department has appropriate link nurses and supports them in undertaking the role.
Develop and motivate the team.
Lead the team to meet local divisional and Trust objectives
Co-ordinate the service across the Huddersfield and Calderdale sites in line with regional and national guidelines.
To take an active role in risk assessment, supporting the implementation of strategies to minimize risk. Ensure incidents and near misses are reported, through promotion of a no blame culture.
To manage complaints and escalate where necessary.
To establish and maintain effective communication, both verbal and written and build relationships within the multidisciplinary teams.
To recognize and prevent where possible areas of conflict and escalate if necessary.
Undertake PDR’s for the team.
Supervise and deploy staff appropriately taking into account knowledge and skill mix.
To monitor sickness/absence in accordance to the Trust capability policy.
To take an active role in the recruitment and selection process of junior staff
Act as an innovative and enthusiastic role model, providing leadership, guidance and advice to staff on operational and professional issues.
Attend and participate in meetings as required including providing feedback and disseminating information as appropriate.
Deputising for the ward/departmental manager Be proactive in the development of clinical area, supporting ward sister in business
planning process/service development, through contribution of new ideas to improve patient care/experience.
Financial Duties
To have an awareness of budget and resources and support the senior sister with the management of the budget.
Managing Self
Take responsibility for own continuing professional development.
Participate in regular supervision.
Attend all mandatory training.
Participate annually identifying, developing and agreeing your own development plan with your Line Manager using the Trust Appraisal.
Comply with all Trust policies, procedures and protocols.
Carry out duties with due regard to the Trust’s Equal Opportunity Policy.
Seek advice and support from Line Manager whenever necessary.
Maintain professional conduct including appearance at all times.
Ensure maintenance of Professional Registration.
