An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist at Liverpool Clinical Laboratories in the Stem Cell Laboratory. The Programme has implemented the NHSE commissioned CAR-T therapy service in the past two years. Working as part of the team you will contribute to the provision and further development of this high-quality service including the involvement in clinical trials and research projects within the rapidly expanding field of cellular therapy.
The laboratory and designated aseptic suite are based in the CSSB facility at the Royal Liverpool Hospital and form an integral part of the regional Cellular Therapy Programme providing the stem cell transplant service to The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Liverpool and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

The main duties of this role are to use specialist knowledge across a range of procedures including flow cytometry, to perform the validation of analytical data prior to result reporting, processing, cryopreservation and long-term storage of stem cell collections, preparation of donor lymphocyte infusions in measured doses and attendance at the thawing and reinfusion of cellular therapy products to ensure product quality.
You will have experience of LIMS, other IT systems and of Quality Management Systems and you will be expected to train all other appropriate grades of staff and support the Senior Biomedical Scientists.
You will also support the operational functionality of the laboratory including calibrating, maintaining and operating complex analytical equipment and regularly reviewing internal quality control and external quality assurance data trends.
The department is UKAS ISO 15189:2012 accredited, holds a HTA licence for Human Application and is JACIE accredited.

Job Summary
The post holder will be an experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist and will perform routine and specialist procedures to aid the effective diagnosis and treatment of patients. They will liaise with scientific and medical staff, both internally and externally. The post holder will be required to fulfil all their duties on a rotational basis supplying their skills to all sections and hospital sites covered by this service.

Provide timely and accurate results using the appropriate automated and manual processes.
Provide routine and specialist haematology and transfusion analyses, validation, interpretation and reporting of results.

The ideal candidate would have previous experience of working in cellular therapy. As a minimum, it is expected that the post holder will have a demonstrable experience working as a post registration specialist Biomedical Scientist in haematology and blood transfusion. The role will include working effectively in a GMP grade clean room facility, performing specialist testing, working closely with medical and specialist nursing staff from other NHS Trusts and assisting with stem cell and donor lymphocyte harvesting, processing and transplant. The post holder will be required to work outside of routine working hours to meet the demands of the service where necessary.
