The Acute Stroke Unit is seeking experienced and motivated Registered Nurses with a passion for delivering high‑quality care to acutely unwell stroke patients. We welcome applicants with strong transferable skills who are eager to develop specialist expertise in acute stroke care.

Our unit consists of an 8‑bed High Dependency Stroke area and 26 acute stroke beds, providing a dynamic environment with significant opportunities to enhance your clinical knowledge and confidence. Nurses working within the unit gain extensive experience in acute stroke management, neurological assessment, complex care planning, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

You will be supported by a dedicated multidisciplinary team, including stroke consultants, therapists, and specialist nurses. The unit also benefits from an on‑site education nurse who offers comprehensive training, mentorship, and ongoing professional development to ensure you succeed and thrive in your role.

You must have an active NMC PIN and the relevant experience/transferable skills as per the person specification below

As a Registered Nurse you’ll provide vital support to individual patients who have had a stroke. Patients at times are at their most vulnerable and can require extra support; this would be to provide emotional support, diversional activities, patient safety and personal care. This is a responsible and rewarding role, with a direct impact on patients’ lives.

The right candidate will possess a calm and supportive manner and will work well as part of the MDT. Ideally the potential candidates for this role will have experience caring for patients who have had a stroke, although this is not essential. Candidates must show dedication, motivation and a willingness to take on new challenges, have a proven record of supporting change and improvement on the ward. In addition to effective interpersonal and communication skills, you will be adept at both working as part of a team and able to act on your own initiative to provide an excellent standard of individualized patient centred care.

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:
• high-quality care for all,
• being a great place to work,
• partnerships for impact, and
• research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
• we are compassionate,
• we are proud,
• we are inclusive, and
• we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
