Are you ready to kick-start a hands-on career in construction? Do you have a passion for learning a skilled trade and a
determination to succeed? If so, we have an incredible opportunity for you! Join our dynamic and forward-thinking team at HMS as
an Apprentice Plasterer, where you will gain practical experience and develop valuable skills, working towards an NVQ Level 2
qualification. This is a 24-month apprenticeship. Successful candidates will be expected to travel to their assigned college (City
of Liverpool College) or workplace as required.
As one of the Northwest’s largest repairs, investment, and construction contractors, HMS plays a vital role within the Torus
Group. With over a decade of sector experience, HMS provides comprehensive end-to-end services to the Torus Group a leading
housing provider with more than 40,000 homes and a significant new build programme. Renowned for its expertise, HMS delivers a

What Will You Be Doing?
* Learn to carry out a wide range of internal and external plastering tasks, including full and patch plastering, dry lining,
skimming, rendering, and damp-proof plastering.
* Train in the correct use of tools, equipment, and materials while working safely and efficiently.
* Develop the skills, knowledge, and competence required to independently carry out all core tasks associated with the trade by
the end of the apprenticeship programme.
* Develop planning and organisational skills to complete tasks within company deadlines and standards.
* Work within a scheduled appointment system and liaise with customers and colleagues.
* Gain experience in diagnostic and measuring work to assess job requirements.
* Use IT systems for communication, work orders, and material management.
* Learn to make informed repair decisions within contract limits and manage customer expectations when delays occur.
* Complete all required documentation accurately and consistently.
* Participate in training, development, and the company’s competency programme.
* Manage vehicle stock effectively, aiming to reduce waste and ensure availability.
* Follow all health and safety guidelines, reporting any issues promptly.
* Collaborate with other teams and contractors to ensure work is completed efficiently.
* Meet all quality, customer care, and performance standards.
* Attend college and complete all assessments needed to successfully achieve the apprenticeship.
* Support wider team activities and carry out additional duties as directed.
What We’re Looking For:
* English and Maths GCSE at Grade 4 (C) or above, or Functional Skills Level 1 or Level 2 (or equivalent). For adult learners
(19+), entry requirements may be applied flexibly and GCSEs may be waived where candidates can demonstrate significant
construction experience and/or site supervisory responsibilities. In such cases, suitability may be assessed through a skills
assessment and/or professional discussion, and Functional Skills in English and/or Maths may still be required depending on
individual circumstances.
* A strong work ethic and enthusiasm for learning a trade.
* Commitment to academic learning, including attending college.
* Excellent time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
* Good IT skills and the ability to use communication tools effectively.
* A customer-focused attitude and the ability to work well in a team.
* Flexibility and resilience in a fast-paced work environment.
* A commitment to obtaining a full UK driving licence by the end of your apprenticeship
Assessment Day:
* Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an assessment day to further evaluate their skills and suitability for the
apprenticeship. Assessment day will take place on 15th June 2026 at The City of Liverpool College.
College or Training Organisation:
* All our Plasterer apprentices are enrolled in City of Liverpool College
Your Training Plan
* You will receive both on-the-job and off-the-job training over the course of 24 months, following a detailed induction and
training plan. You will attend college on a day-release basis. Upon successful completion, you will earn the Level 2
Qualification in Plastering.
During Your Apprenticeship
* You will work across our three main vibrant heartlands – Liverpool, Warrington, and St Helens and surrounding areas, where
you’ll rotate through a variety of dynamic workstreams, gaining hands-on experience and building a broad foundation of
knowledge along the way.
