Learning Support Assistant
Location: Derby City Centre
Pay: £430 - £460 per week (take-home)
Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary to Permanent
Start Date: Immediate
We are currently recruiting for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist secondary setting in Derby City Centre. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work closely with students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing both academic and pastoral support to help them re-engage with education and achieve their potential.
This is a long-term opportunity with the potential to become a permanent role for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to students with SEMH needs within a secondary classroom environment
- Adapt learning materials and approaches to meet individual student requirements
- Build positive and trusting relationships to support student engagement and emotional wellbeing
- Assist in managing challenging behaviour using appropriate de-escalation techniques and behaviour strategies
- Support the implementation of individual learning and behaviour plans, monitoring progress and providing feedback
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals to support student development
Candidate Requirements:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, ideally within an educational or similar setting
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach, with the ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A genuine commitment to supporting the academic and personal development of young people
- A valid Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to obtain one
