This is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacy technician with a passion for medication safety to work at a national level and help make improvements in medication safety across the system.

The successful applicant will:
• contribute to the delivery and development of a programme of work to support the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) Medicines Use and Safety (MUS) team’s delivery against national Medicines Safety Improvement Programme (MedSIP) objectives
• work closely with the national MedSIP team and other key external stakeholders in the development and delivery of national medicines safety improvement initiatives
• contribute to the development, delivery and maintenance of quality assured MUS workstream resources to support commissioners, organisations and health professionals (resources may be webinars, podcasts, videos, website articles and workspaces on NHS Futures)

Whilst this post is hosted by the Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust, the expectation is that the individual will work remotely. This is a 0.4 whole time equivalent fixed-term band 6 post until 31st March 2027. Secondments will be considered.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking pharmacy technician to join the team to help improve medication safety at a national level. You will be dynamic and innovative, with a passion for medication safety and you will be able to actively engage others in making sustainable improvements.





About SPS
The NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) supports the NHS to develop best practice systems of work related to buying, making and using medicines. The service provides leadership, instructive and informative specialist input and operational support to the sourcing, supply and use of medicines across the system. Our strengths are borne out of connecting national expertise with policy teams and arm’s length bodies to ensure consistency and high standards. The service supports both regional and local connections to ensure that the service’s outputs resonate with and support local NHS organisations which deliver care to patients. The key successes of SPS are through the development and delivery of their “Do Once and Share” methodology.

About MUS
We are a well-respected team interpreting legislation and guidance for NHS organisations and practitioners in England; promoting safe patient care across the entire medicines pathway. Closely connected with front line colleagues we work with policy makers, regulators and strategic leaders, responding with agility and flexibility to share local expertise within our extensive clinical networks.

Delivers outcomes within agreed timescales following liaison with relevant stakeholders across England.

Develops and maintains appropriate resources on the SPS website, ensuring accuracy of information which is up to date with current policy and practice, applies all governance requirements and meets website key performance indicators (KPIs).

Contributes to the outputs of the MUS workstreams for example, networking events.

Contributes to uniting and integrating SPS outputs to ensure all resources are shared across the country, thus maximising efficiency, and productivity.

Is proficient in methods of data capture, analysis, and communication and able to deal with large amounts of information on a continuous basis, including internet, email, wordprocessing, presentation (PowerPoint), database and spreadsheet applications.

Presents reports and data that have been collected or supported by the MUS Team at national meetings and conferences.

Contributes to local and national task groups and workstreams.

Engages with practitioners and subject matter experts to gather intelligence e.g. through regional networks.

Maintains a robust understanding of health policy developments that impact on the delivery of the MUS outputs and informs the business planning and service needs assessments for the team.

Undertakes any other duties as required by the Director of Medicines Use and Safety.
