Summary
An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and supportive teams as aTrainee Assistant Physiologistwithin theClinical Measurement Department at Royal Derby Hospital (RDH)and theCardio‑Respiratory Department at Queen’s Hospital Burton (QHB).
This role is ideal for someone with an interest in healthcare science who is keen to develop skills in performingroutine diagnostic investigations. Following completion of the required training and competency assessments, you will work as anAssistant Physiologist, undertaking a range of standard diagnostic clinical measurement investigations across various sections of the department.
Services are primarily delivered fromRDH and QHB, with additional clinics based at ourCommunity Diagnostic Centres (CDCs)atFlorence Nightingale, Ilkeston and Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital.

This is a varied role offering excellent exposure to different clinical environments, with full training and support provided to help you develop within the service.
• To perform electrocardiograms (ECGs) for inpatients and outpatients of all ages in accordance with departmental protocols and national standards.
• To support the delivery of a range of cardiology and respiratory diagnostic services within a busy clinical environment.
• To prepare patients for investigations, ensuring procedures are clearly explained and patient dignity, comfort and safety are maintained at all times.
• To accurately record, process and store diagnostic data using the appropriate clinical systems.
• To assist qualified staff with additional diagnostic tests as skills and competencies develop.
• To undertake training and assessment towards the SCST Practical Award and Certificate in Electrocardiography, applying learning to clinical practice.
• To maintain clinical areas, equipment and stock, ensuring infection prevention and control standards are met.
• To work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to service efficiency and high‑quality patient care.
• To comply with Trust policies, professional standards, and health and safety requirements at all times.
